Well, it's been a while, huh? About a month actually. I think with Brian's episode on the way back from Costa Rica, things were crazy and I got off my game and just haven't been able to get back to it. I can hardly remember what details have happened in the last month, so I just took a ton of pictures that will get you up to date. The floors have been uncovered and grouted. They are still dirty with all the construction dust, but here's a pic.
The arch is finished and I LOVE it. It really adds so much character to the living room and kitchen.
The boys shower is grouted and I think it looks awesome. The tile has the wall color and the color of the floor tile in it - I think it was a great choice.
Now, the boys sink area. Ugh. Not that I dislike it, but it has been a hassle. We were just going to use the leftover shower tiles for the backsplash, but after the countertop was put in, we put up a tile against it and it looked terrible. Not "Oh, that's not my favorite" or "That doesn't look so hot, but it'll work"... NO. It was more like "Oh my goodness, that tile is absolutely hideous against that countertop!" The shower tile just has too much yellow in it. On opposite sides of the room it wasn't really noticeable, but right next to each other? Holy ugliness. So we were back at square one to pick out something ELSE to go in the bathroom. I would've loved to use more soapstone, but we didn't have any left and a new slab would've been ridiculously expensive and theres no guarantee it would match. So back to the tile store I went with a leftover chunk of the soapstone to try to match to something. Since we already had one kind of tile and one kind of countertop, I wanted something very simple and plain. I went with the one below. We are also going to seal the countertop so it will be a darker gray. My hope is that it will all blend together.
The arch from the living room. :)
The kitchen backsplash is grouted and I love it even more than before! I love the little corner detail we went with instead of just a plain 90 degree angle. (Again, one of Brian's many great ideas.)
Another shot of the backsplash...
The pantry.
Our grouted shower - oh how I love thee. With the white grout it just looks so sharp and clean.
We used the subway tiles on the walls and the octagon tile on the floors. You can't really tell too much about it, but trust me... it's gorgeous.
Our little shower cubbies. I love the little cubbies for razors, bar soap, etc.
Brian's sink area
My sink area
A shot from the doorway. Our bathroom has a heated floor, so they put down the mat, poured the floor leveler stuff on top and then put the tiles in. I LOVE the dark floor in this bathroom - I think it really helps tone down all the white.
I was headed upstairs to take pics and peeked out in the garage and look what I saw - APPLIANCES!!!!!! Yippee!! (Evidently appliances and grout is what I live for these days.)
The office/library. The bookshelves have all been stained and they look great! (That little cabinet in the middle of the room is the candy counter for the theater room.)
In the craft room, I chose subway tile again for the backsplash, but in a 4X8 instead of the usual 3X6. I've done a lot of subway tile in this house, but I needed something neutral and I knew I would like it, so why not? :) We did the same 45 degree angles to mimic the kitchen corners.
I backed myself up in the far corner to get the entire craft room. I can't wait to sew, paint, cut paper, throw glitter or do whatever else I want to in here. :)
The upstairs grouted tile turned out great too. Not super fascinating, but DONE. Check.
The backsplash in the theater room. Brian really likes slate and asked the tile guys to pick out some slate samples for me to choose from. I chose a stacked look. It is beautiful. It looks really masculine like I think a theater room would look like. When the candy counter is in place, this will be a cool little nook.
All the yet to be hooked up wires in the theater room closet. That's a lot of wires... I don't know if I'll be able to work anything in here without a chart. :)
I still really dig the wainscot up the stairs.
So that's all for now. I think the plumbers are coming next week, so hopefully we'll have some faucets and toilets to show you next time. Now that's exciting stuff!
