Week 42

More progress this week... On Tuesday I went and picked out all the hardware/fixtures.   Every cabinet has a handle or pull (I'm not a big fan of the finger notches on cabinets) so that was quite a bit of research and price comparison.  Luckily, our hardware guy it super nice, so it was a pretty easy process.  He helped me find a lot of knock-offs to the expensive knobs that I picked out. :)
Meanwhile at the house, more rock and more cabinetry.  The fireplace in our room gained a hearth and I'm really seeing this room come together in my head.  I can imagine the bed, the bedding, a little seating area... I can't wait to cozy up by the fireplace in a comfy chair. :)

They also rocked the living room fireplace.
LOVE.
It's just the farmhouse/rustic/old look we are going for.

They also started on the kitchen/LR arch.

Upstairs, the bookshelves in the library were put in.  We're going to have to buy lots of books to fill up those suckers. :)

And we got the last piece of cabinetry for the theater room.  Glass will go in the top, front and sides making it into a good ol' fashioned candy counter.

Thats all for this week!

Week 41

This week has been FUN because the tile guys arrived.   If the house were an outfit, then the tile would have to be the jewelry.  It just dresses everything up and makes me happy!
So we start with the kitchen.
OH. MY. LANTA.
After perusing Pinterest for months looking at tile, I came upon beveled subway tile.  I was pretty sure that I wanted a subway tile of some sort, but when I saw the beveled subway tile, I fell in love.  I don't know how to describe it... the light bounces off of the edges and it just sparkles.  Josh, our tile guy, even said it "dances in the light".  Yes, Josh, I totally agree. :) Here's a close up.

Brian didn't care about the kitchen tile, but he did request no tumbled natural stone that most people are doing in kitchens.  He puts it in all of his houses that he builds and he has nothing against it, he's just tired of it.  So I picked the kitchen and our bath tile and he picked the boys bath and upstairs bath.
This is the beverage bar.  It almost makes me squeal, I love it so much!  We ordered the prettiest little faucet to go over the sink here... I can't wait to see that in. :)

The backsplash behind the stove/oven.  I wavered back and forth about doing an inset of herringbone or something, but decided that it would be too much.  I'm SO glad I didn't- it looks amazing.

The masons are finished with the outside of the house, so they were inside this week working on the fireplace in the master bedroom.  Brian even put wiring for an outlet in the mantle without me even saying anything to him.  Does that guy know me or what?

Our bathroom.
I absolutely love our shower.  Our bathroom is turning out exactly like I wanted it to and I couldn't be more pleased.  To go with the vintage look, I wanted a white subway tile shower.  Since there was going to be a mix of tiles in the shower, we decided to go with a flat subway tile.  It turned out beautifully. We'll have a bench seat in the back and lots of different sprayers and such that we won't know how to use.  Brian got talked into getting "the works" by his plumber friends because he could get a good deal on them. :)

Closer up of the rope molding and the shower cubbies.

The backsplashes above our sinks turned out gorgeous too.  Cant wait to see the faucets!

This is the upstairs bathroom.  This is one of the tiles Brian picked out. I would've never chosen this on my own, but I actually like it.

This is the boys shower.  I really like the tile in here.  In the pictures it looks similar to upstairs, but it's got a lot more gray in it.  I went to go look at one of Brian's houses he was building one day and I saw a shower that was a 12X24 size tile laid in a vertical brick lay pattern.  I thought it was cool and unique and so we decided to do it in the boys bath.  I think it turned out great.

More to come... stay tuned!
