Carpet, baby!

The carpet is in and it looks great!
My dad watched the boys yesterday and my mom and I moved stuff all day.  (They got here at 10:00 and left last night at 9:00).  We got a lot of stuff moved including our dining tables and chairs.  I LOVE how the black on the chairs looks with the black cabinets!
With all of our thing being moved in, it's really beginning to look like our home!  We still have to get our internet, phone and TV set up, but I think we'll hopefull be in by next weekend.  Yay!

A few more pics...

Brian spent a lot of the day painting the bedroom and bathroom doors yesterday.  He and Reed went over today to put them back on the hinges and put up the rest of the kitchen cabinet doors.  Here's a sneak peek...
Hudson decided that he needed to be in the middle of the action and help his daddy out-

After posting pics yesterday, I realized that I left Hudson's room out.  It's a very pale blue that will be a great neutral to use with his bedding now and for when he moves into a big boy bed.
Last but certainly not least...the mantle!  We painted it and the fireplace black and I ♥ it! If you don't remember the before, check it out here.

Pictures!!

Finally, some updated pictures!!  Three days, a lot of primer and paint, and a tired girl (and some tired helpers) later, here is the progress.  Let's get right to it, shall we?
Reed's room-
Brian is going to put up a chair rail where the paint colors meet.  Last week I bought Reed a comforter with planets on it and a rocket lava lamp from e-bay.  So cute!
Our bedroom-
This was a happy accident.  A friend of a friend had left a comment on the blog about using rust as an accent color with my bedding.  I LOVED that idea, so I went though my hand dandy paint deck to find the perfect rust.  Well, I finally decided on a color that I though would be great... bought a little 2 oz. sample and painted a 2 X 3 foot square on the wall.  I HATED it.  It was a horrible, super bright, offensive ORANGE!!  I thought that maybe if I mixed some glaze and brown paint, I could rub it over top and do a faux finish to bring the color down a little.  Still hated it, but on a whim rubbed a little on the wall beside it.  I loved it, so we ended up doing the whole room that way!  It's not what I had originally planned for our bedroom and it's not exactly what I would pick to go with our bedding, but I love the way it turned out.
Next, a pic of our bathroom.  Before, the walls were painted a horrible color that my sister-in-law Sara aptly named "Flesh".  Ewww.  This is the new color:

Living room cabinet-
I took off the old hardware and spray painted it flat black.  Cheap and easy.
New wall in dining area/Reed's room-
I. LOVE. IT.  With everything painted, it blends in perfectly and looks awesome.  (And check out that naked concrete just waiting for it's new flooring - Yippee!)
The guest bath-
Instead of trying to tear down all that wallpaper (ugh), we just did the "torn brown paper" treatment over it.  It was fast, easy and the whole bathroom cost $30 and I have a TON of brown paper left over.  The worst part by far was having to "hug" the toilet to press the paper on the wall behind it. Can you see the stains on the carpet?  (Yes, my friends, carpet in a bathroom.  Blech.  Not only stained carpet around a toilet, but a man lived there the last three years and I'm pretty sure he never cleaned.  Ever.  Gag me.)
Moving on...
The biggest change and my favorite room? The kitchen!!  Take a look, people:
Now granted, the cabinet doors aren't on yet, but I still LOVE it.  I used an olivey tan on the back splash and just primed and painted right over the wallpaper.  I absolutely love the color with the black cabinets.  A big change from the before picture, huh?
Lastly, I had to show you a pic of my little helpers taking off the hardware in the bathroom.  Too cute, huh?

And the list dwindles...

My list of to-do's is definitely getting smaller and all I can say is... Woo- Hoo!  Yesterday my mom and I worked on painting the master bathroom, priming and painting the newly built wall and starting the brown paper bag treatment in the guest bath.  Last night Brian told me that the guys were coming to rip up the flooring so everything needed to be picked up.  He ended up spending a couple of hours moving things out of the house and my mom and I finished this morning. Cami graciously came to help us and we got so much done! We finished the guest bath, primed and painted the kitchen back splash and small hallway off the kitchen, painted the mantle, got a lot of the trim painted... I'm so pleased. Then the floor guys showed up this afternoon and scraped up all the old linoleum.  New floors are supposed to be put in Monday so we need to have the painting done by then.  All we lack is some trim and wall touch ups.  We also have the cabinets to put back together and doors to go on hinges, but we're really beginning to see the fruits of our labors.  (I say "our" labors because my mom has helped me almost every time I go to paint, not to mention Sara and Cami.  Thank you so much - I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the help! Also a big thanks to my babysitters (Gammy & Pepaw) 'cause without you, this would NOT be getting done!)  I promise I'll get some pics to share next time!

Update Pictures

I went over to the house tonight to check on the progress, and I am SO excited!!  The cabinets are all painted and there are cabinet doors scattered all over the house...it just makes me smile!  Here are couple of pictures for you:

Hot diggity!  I ♥ my new cabinets!  I can't wait until all of the doors and hardware are on.  If you didn't notice, the ceiling is white.  I was a little worried that it would be too stark in a contrast against the black, but I think it looks great!  (It keeps the room light and I can always do a treatment on it later if it wears on me.)
One of my favorite things I noticed... my FREE barstools painted black!!  I. LOVE. THEM.  They look so awesome in the kitchen. (For some reason, they look charcoal gray in this picture, but they are the same color as the cabinets.)
The next picture is the cabinet in the living room.  If you're wondering about the giant patch of paneling that's not painted... we decided that the best place for TV on this wall, so we're just making the cabinetry into an entertainment center of sorts.  We had the upper shelving removed to make room for the TV (hence the paneling) and we'll cut out the middle of one of the lower cabinet doors, replace it with glass and that will house all of our components. A big thanks to my mom who came up with the "remove the cabinet" idea.
Here is Reed's fourth wall for his bedroom!  Yay!  I can't wait to get it painted out.  Instead of doing a textured wall, Brian chose to get more paneling.  I think it will blend with the rest of the house and look like it was always there.
There's a nice update for you.  I'm very excited about all the progress.  Stay tuned... new floors are next!!

HAPPIEST. WOMAN. EVER.

Yep, you read that right... I AM the happiest woman right now. Why, you ask?  What could be so great and monumental that could make me so happy?  Drumroll, please...
Brian hired someone to paint the kitchen cabinets for me and they will be done next week!  When he told me that little piece of info tonight, I actually thought I might cry.  My 30th birthday is in a couple of weeks and I seriously could not think of something that I want more than to NOT have to paint those freakin' cabinets.
I LOVE my husband!
