Snow day pics like everyone else

This is my third post in two days but I thought I would post some snow pictures. The cows are my neighbors.

Plowing the field till I got stuck

Here is my discing setup. I have my John Deere tractor, International Harvestor 10' disc and a 12" I beam drag behind that.
The back of the field has been gone over one time and the front has been gone over twice. I am trying to get it smooth and ready to seed grass. I have maybe 10% done so far.

This is where I am going to plant the orchard. The house is a few hundred feet to the right as you are looking. I am planting the orchard for me, but mostly I think it ill be fun for the boys and their friends to climb in the trees and eat the fruit. One of my best memories is being at Papa's (dad's dad) farm and going out and picking peaches. Then I would cut out a slice with my pocket knife, stab the slice and eat it.

Eric is a good brother. He came out to help when I got the tractor stuck. I was out one day right after it had rained trying to get everything done. I don't think I made up any time.

This is my little International dozer. Pretty handy little piece of equipment.

Heading outside

As far as I am concerned the inside of the house is pretty much done, so I am shifting my attention outside. Heather has been giving me a hard time about doing a blog, so I thought I would give it a try. If it is fun and anyone actually looks at it I'll keep doing it.
These are just a few outside pics from the fall. My plans are to get everything cleared and plowed by spring. The people that had the land before us didn't really do anything with it for the last 25 years. So the pastures are rough, dead trees/piles of dead trees, and grass needs help.
We have 35 acres here. It is a L shape. The front of the L is where the house is and it is pretty wooded. The back of the L is pasture. The picture above and below is standing in the same spot just looking in opposite directions.

We cut hay twice this year and got a little more than 80 big round bales. I cut and raked it and got someone else to bale it since I don't have a baler... yet.

There is about 9 piles this big and many more smaller ones. We are burning them on rainy days.

Plans for the year:
  • Plow and smooth out the pastures
  • Plant the orchard. We are going to have 20-30 trees. Apples, Peaches, Pears and maybe Nectarines.
  • Get the garden planted. Heather, me and my Mom are all doing it together.
  • Then just continue clearing and cleaning up, but for right now those are priority since they need to be done by spring.
