Week 14 & 15

Monday
Reed and I walked down to the house after lunch (Hudson was on house arrest until his room was cleaned up) and they had started the roof on the backside of the house.  I LOVE it.

We went in and the electricians had started nailing up the wiring boxes for light switches and outlets.  You never realize how many outlets are in a house until you see little blue boxes scattered all over the place. This view is from the office balcony.

Reed posing next to his light switch box.  This goofiness is definitely my genes showing through. :)

I went back towards the end of the day because Brian and I were meeting the cabinet guy.  They had nailed up most of the blue boxes for the outlets, put in craft room windows...

and had more of the roof done.

Tuesday/Wednesday

More roof...

And the electricians put in a lot of the can light boxes.  This is our bedroom ceiling.

This will be where the bed goes.  Brian had them wire the outlets on either side of the bed to work on switches.  And my side will also work the fan and overhead lights. :)

So much for posting at the end of the week... Friday the boys and I spent the afternoon swimming and then we got home and Brian's parents came over and brought pizza so Eric & Sara's kiddos could see the goats and their babies that were just a couple of days old.  SO cute!

Saturday we had a swim meet and on Sunday we had an quite the rainstorm.  You can read about the craziness here.  After all that hoopla, it started raining again on Monday morning.  Swim practice was cancelled and we ended up staying home because I needed to wait on the carpet people to come. We stayed inside the whole day - too muddy to go outside -  in a house that is in wild disarray due to furniture crammed over in the dining room and a dehumidifier and carpet drying fans all over the place.  It was a long day. :)

Tuesday morning was good. Groceries were purchased and swim practice was on - lots of 6 and 10 year old boy energy was expelled. :)  It was dry enough for the roofers to come back out and before some MORE thunder/rain rolled in, they were able to get almost the whole roof finished.   They came back on Wednesday morning and finished it up.   I'm totally diggin' this metal roof.  I think everything is coming together very nicely.

Besides the roof, not much else happened this week because of the rain. But the window for the half bath arrived...

And so did the porch columns.  They're in a box, but here is a sneak peek...

I can't wait to see all this up and painted. [Insert squeal here]. :)

Week 13

Another busy week... We have had Seals in the morning and then VBS in the evenings with summer fun in between. :). I got down to the house mid-week to see what had been done.  The flashing arrived, so a lot more of the siding had been put up and they were working their way around the back of the house.

They framed out the top of the living room fireplace...

...and started the entryway wall. When you walk in the front door, you walk into a small vestibule type area.  From there, you walk through an arched opening into the living room. Above the arch is a wall that goes all the way up to the vaulted ceiling. Brian wanted a round window to go in that wall to let the light in. The next picture is front door through the archway.

This is the window that will be above the archway.

When you're standing in the living room, you'll be able to see through the round window, out the arched window on to the second floor balcony.  I think it will be really cool and let even more light into the living room.
They also were working on all the arches of the openings into the living room. This is the archway from the kitchen into the living room. Who knew framing could be so pretty? :)

It rained Thursday morning. The rest of the siding will have to wait, but our bedroom "wing" is finished (the garage and fireplace will be stone)...

...but the most exciting news came on Thursday afternoon... the framers are done on the inside of the house!  I am SO excited!  I opened the front door and the round window was in it's place. (I hope this makes more sense to see it than me trying to explain it before.)

This is the archway and window from the living room.

They took down all the boards that run across the rooms and the ones they use for framing the ceiling/circle window and it makes such a huge difference.  This is the living room from the kitchen.

This is the finished peak ceiling in the movie room.

We also added a door to the office that will go to the A/C stuff.

This is the view of the living room from the office loft opening.

We met with the cabinet people Friday morning while they continued work on the siding. It's close to being done...

We are still waiting on a couple of windows (turns out my kitchen window is wrong - it doesn't open and Brian wanted it to open, so they had to order another one and it's going to take 3 weeks.  So the siding won't be finished on the front porch for a bit.)  Brian also had a hang up with the end of the house when they started to put up the siding.  He was afraid that it was going to look like one huge wall of siding since the only thing we had to break it up was the boys bathroom window.  We ended up having 2 windows that were for the dormers that were wrong (they opened, but weren't supposed to), so they gave up as great deal on them and the framers just cut holes and put them in.

Next week we start electrical wiring, plumbing and the roof!

Week 12

Reed was sick the first half of the week, so I didn't get  down to get pictures until Tuesday.  They did more of the siding... this is the back of the house.  None of the siding is above the windows - we're waiting on the flashing.

They also put in the window in the hallway to our bedroom.

On Wednesday, they continued the siding and the started putting the felt on the roof.  It's the waterproof layer between the plywood and the metal roof that will go right on top.

They also put in the front door frame.  The plywood inserts will be glass and the front door is a craftsman style.

Reed started feeling better, so after Seals Thursday morning, we played games and had a water balloon fight in the back yard.  Then I had to shower and go to a thing, so I didn't get home until after dark.  On Friday, I went out and we had dormers!  I've been looking forward to the dormers for a while.  I luv 'em.

I went upstairs to get a closer pic.

This is the arched window on the balcony (still waiting on the flashing for above the windows)...

They also put in the little arched wind at the top of the stairwell...

The view from what will be the office french doors.  (I think that lone little limb is gonna have to go.)

They started electrical for the lights on the back porch.

This is the arched window from inside - it's directly above the front door.

I'm really loving how it's looking.  Very exciting!

Week 11

This week been a much shorter work week with the holiday on Monday and the rainy days that followed.  On Thursday, the third window above the garage was cut out...

And they started on the upstairs porch.  Only a small section of the upstairs balcony will be covered, so they worked on that section.

They also started to put up the siding.  This isn't the kind of siding that has the color in it - we'll be painting it later.

 Started trim around the windows...

The porch ceiling from upstairs...

And the view... Check out that water level on the tank! :)

Friday

I went down to take pictures and I ended up seeing 3 rabbits hiding randomly around the house. :)

More siding done...

And they framed out the fireplace for the master...

And the living room.

Saturday
Another crew came and put on the roof decking.  It made the house feel so different!

It's really coming along. :)
